Essential oils have become a very intimate part of my life and the lives of countless numbers of people all over the world. These oils are healing to mind, body, and spirit. Certain essences actually cause a release of neurotransmitters in the brain, such as serotonin. Serotonin plays a role in both memory and learning, as well as, mood. This physiological response then causes a psychological outcome. You may feel better, gain a positive attitude, and also experience an immune boost as well. One thing that you can do at least once a week is to have an aromatherapy bath. Before you start, however, keep in mind that you only put a small number of drops in the bath water. Too many drops might irritate the skin. Less is more in most cases, when using essential oils, since they are extremely concentrated. These oils are also easily obtained, since many of the local grocery stores and health-food stores carry them.
Recipes for a relaxing bath:
RELAXING WINTER BATH
5 drops of lavender (antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, calmative) –soft floral
2 drops of eucalyptus (antibacterial, decongestant, immune tonic)–strong, fresh, slightly sweet scent
2 drops of juniper (decongestant, lymphatic decongestant, reduces swelling)–fresh piney scent
1/2-1 cup of plain Epsom Salts (depends on the size of the bath tub)
After your bath, apply sesame or sweet almond oil all over the body. These oils are especially great for replenishing the moisture lost by skin during the winter months.
