Last night I noticed a woman at the grocery store who had at least 5-6 harsh household cleansers in her cart. Many people want quick affordable cleansers, but don’t think about the cost on their health. The irony of it all is that household cleansers are supposed to protect and disinfect, but ultimately can be hard on people who have compromised immune systems such as asthma. Essential oils are a safe alternative to these harsh chemicals. The following are some more helpful home remedy tips!
CLEANING THE SHOWER & BATHROOM
Add 5-6 drops of Lemon Essential Oil To a wet wash cloth.
After a warm/hot shower, add the essential oil to your wash cloth then wipe the walls of the shower. It cleans, disinfects, and is safe to breathe. You may use this to wipe down the entire bathroom. Other oils that disinfect are lavender, juniper, mandarin, tea tree, and eucalyptus.
GENERAL DUSTING
First, fill a bathroom sink with warm to hot water, then add a combination of essential oils to the water. I like to add 2 drops of eucalyptus, 2 drops of lavender, and 2 drops of lemon. Dip a wash cloth in the scented water, wring it out, then you are ready to dust! I dusted my indoor shutters with this blend and the entire upper floor was freshly scented, not to mention it lifts the mood while working. Keep dipping and wringing our the wash cloth, until your job is completed. Finally, empty the water, then use a tissue to lightly wipe out any remaining dust etc.. You have dusted your home and disinfected your sink at the same time.
SHOWER THERAPY
Put 4-7 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil, on the shower floor, while showering. This is great during flu and cold season, when decongestants are in great demand.
FRESHEN THE CLOSET
Put 5-7 drops of Cedarwood Essential Oil on a tissue, dried herbs, or put some drops on actual cedar, to deter insects such as moths. It also freshens the closet. I like to use a mixture that contains cedarwood because the mixture leaves a nice scent in the closet. You can buy this mixes at your local grocery store. I have one that contains basil, niaouli, eucalyptus, pine, rosemary, lavender, and cedarwood.
CALMING TISSUE
Place 1-3 drops of Mandarin Essential Oil on a tissue and inhale. Mandarin helps to relieve stress, insomnia, irritability, mental fatigue, nervous tension, restlessness, and over-activity. Children tend to like this scent.
- Always use caution when using essential oils. Never touch your eyes when handling essential oils. Always rinse your finger tips, if you touch them directly. If you do get some in the eye, dip a cotton pad or Q-tip in sweet almond oil, then wipe the eye. Never use essential oils on children, highly allergic individuals, or pregnant women without consulting a doctor.
- Pure essential oils are for external use only.
- Keep essential oils out of the reach of children.
- Use only the highest quality essential oils on the body.
